ALDER MONTESSORI

17200 SE Alder St., Portland, OR 97233

ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

Alder Montessori is a collaborative project between AEME, Greater Than, Early Learning Multnomah/Preschool Promise, and the Reynolds School District in Portland, Oregon. The program is a tuition-free Montessori program serving ages 3-6, embedded within Alder Elementary School. The first classroom opened in the Fall of 2015, responding to a need identified by community stakeholders.

The program serves children and families living in a historically under-resourced area disproportionately impacted by systemic racism and marginalization. Now Alder Montessori has reached capacity, serving 40 students in two classrooms. A weighted lottery prioritizes enrollment for those students facing the greatest barriers to academic success, ensuring we first serve families identified as having the most need. We received more than 70 lottery applications for our first classroom, and the demand from families continues to outstrip our capacity. We are grateful to the many people and organizations that help make this program possible.
