ABOUT THE POSITION:

Job Summary The Classroom Assistant supports the Montessori approach across classrooms, playgrounds, and school environments, helping create a warm, safe, and nurturing space where independence, curiosity, and respect thrive. Working closely with the Guide, this role models patience and positive behavior while supporting a rich Montessori learning experience. Participation in Camp Vida is included, contributing to engaging and developmentally appropriate summer programming.

Responsibilities 

● Assist with classroom management and child supervision in alignment with school policies. 

● Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging environment, including common areas. 

● Build respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues. 

● Support daily routines, transitions, recess, rest, aftercare, and Camp Vida activities. 

● Lead small group activities as directed by the Guide. 

● Communicate classroom concerns to the Guide and report unusual incidents. 

● Participate in staff meetings, trainings, school events, and ongoing professional development. 

● Follow schedules and perform other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications 

● Aide 1 qualified per DELC guidelines. 

● Montessori experience preferred; Montessori Assistant Training (or willingness to complete). 

● Experience with children ages 2.5–6. 

● Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and confidentiality skills. 

● Ability to guide children using positive redirection and model respectful behavior. 

● Ability to work independently and adapt to change. Requirements 

● Enrollment in DELC Central Background Registry. 

● Completion of required state trainings and certifications (Safety Set, First Aid/CPR, Food Handler’s Card, Oregon Registry). 

● Compliance with state and school licensing rules. 

● 24 annual professional development hours (including 8 in child development).
