ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Role This is a part-time position with two connected halves. In the early afternoon, the teacher leads physical education for elementary students, grades one through six. In the later afternoon, the same person runs the after-school program, the bridge between the end of the school day and the moment a child is picked up. 


The first half calls for energy and structure. 

The second calls for organization, communication, and watchfulness. 

Both call for someone who knows children well. 


Physical Education 

• Teach physical education to elementary students, grades one through six, in active and developmentally appropriate lessons. 

• Adopt the current physical education curriculum, with latitude to shape and evolve it over time.

• Build coordination, teamwork, and good sportsmanship into every session. 

• Adapt activities so every child, at every level, can take part. 

• Keep facilities and equipment safe, organized, and ready. 


After-School Program 

• Own the after-school program day to day, with administrative support as needed. 

• Coordinate with outside enrichment providers and serve as their main point of contact. 

• Promote the program to families and guide parents through registration. 

• Partner with administration on pricing, scheduling, and marketing. 

• Supervise children in the window between class dismissal and the start of afterschool activities. 

• Step in to support providers directly when coverage is needed. 


Qualifications 

• A bachelor's degree in any field of study. 

• Experience working with school-aged children. 

• Comfort leading active groups, and the steadiness to manage them well. 

• Organization and follow-through for the coordination side of the role. 

• Warm, clear communication with children, families, and colleagues. 

• An appreciation for Montessori principles, or genuine interest in learning them. 

• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it. 

• Enrollment in and clearance through Oregon's Central Background Registry, as required for staff who work with children.
