ABOUT THE POSITION:
Puddletown School is hiring a middle school guide for the 2025/26 school year. We are heading into year four of our slow-growth middle school program and looking for a values-aligned educator who is ready to jump into our delightful and intentionally established urban microprogram, and help further its growth.
We are a small but mighty school with primary, elementary and adolescent programming, located in Eastmoreland in SE Portland. We have an active commitment to social justice, anti-bias, anti-racism, and equity work (within and outside of our community). We are a caring and committed team of educators who greatly respect each other, the children, and the philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Eligible candidates will need:
Adolescent teaching experience
Montessori adolescent certification (in progress works, as well)
Criminal history registry
CPR/1st aid
Familiarity with anti-bias, antiracist work
Willingness to commit to at least three years of employment with us
Classroom management skills, including providing support to children, overview and redirection as needed to children in class, working individually with children and in small group follow-up work, using positive discipline techniques with children (non-shaming and non-punitive)
Ability to collaborate, communicate directly, lesson plan, keep records, hold adult/teacher conferences, and lead adult education nights
Ability to collaborate and communicate directly and compassionately with others, as well as direct and facilitate meetings
To be grounded in theory and practice and also flexible to support the evolution of Montessori curriculum
Strong organizational/project management skills
Compensation is regionally competitive (50-65k) and open for additional discussion based on experience.
