ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Head of School is hired by and accountable to the Board of Directors of SunGarden Montessori Center. As the public’s first point of contact with the school, the Head of School will act as Ambassador between SunGarden Montessori and the public, generating support for the school’s programs, maintaining commitment to the schools mission, and to the best and highest interest of every child in the program. The Head of School is responsible for the provision of services for SunGarden. The duties include, but are not limited to, those included in the job description. OVERVIEW Financial Management Staff Development, Leadership, Recruitment Maintenance of Facilities and Equipment Capital Development And Long-Range Planning Parent Communications Enrollment/Marketing Direct Assistance To Classroom Staff Heath and Emergency Management General Office and Administrative Tasks Board of Directors Community Relations Requirements EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or closely related field required; Master’s preferred. - AMI Certification preferred. American Montessori Society or other MACTE-approved program considered. - 2 years classroom experience in a Montessori environment or K-3. - Proven ability to organize and direct educational programs and activities. - Models the mission and philosophy of the School. - Has strong leadership skills for a collaborative environment, which balances the requirements of practical decision making with an emphasis placed on consensus, where appropriate, and school-wide perspective. - Appreciates and nurtures existing strengths in SunGarden while being open to new, innovative ideas that may lead to change. - Has the ability to flourish in the public role of Head of School. - Has strong public speaking and writing skills, and the demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, employees, parents, leaders of area schools, the Montessori community, and community partners. - Experience with fundraising desired. - Devotes his/her full time to fulfilling the responsibilities as the Head of School and will not engage in any other gainful occupation without prior consent of the Board. - Has knowledge and understanding of the normal developmental needs and tendencies of both the toddler and primary-aged child. - Experience with 15 months to 6 year-old children preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS Present or complete within first 30 days of employment: - Enrollment in the Central Background Registry (CBR) - Food Handler Card - CPR/First Aid/Epi pen - Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) - Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (INCCHS) - Foundations for Learning - Professional Development: Complete a minimum of 15 hours of documented training each school year. All program members must submit documentation to Oregon Registry Online.
