Little Oak Montessori School, located in the Columbia River Gorge, is seeking a thoughtful and collaborative Elementary Assistant Guide to join our mixed-age classroom community.

This role offers the opportunity to support children during a pivotal stage of development—fostering independence, curiosity, and a deepening sense of responsibility within a carefully prepared Montessori environment. The Assistant Guide works closely with the Lead Guide to observe, support, and respond to the evolving needs of the classroom. Montessori experience is welcomed but not required; we value a willingness to learn and engage deeply with the philosophy.

Position Details:
Start Date: August 19, 2026
Optional Early Start: June 2026 (8:00 AM–4:00 PM)
School Year Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM
Annual Salary: $42k starting, DOE
Benefits: Paid holidays, PTO, paid snow days, 401(k), MERP, professional development
CPR/First Aid required within 90 days

Key Responsibilities:
Support the Lead Guide in maintaining a calm, purposeful, and well-ordered classroom environment
Observe students and assist in meeting academic and social-emotional needs
Guide children toward independence, self-regulation, and responsibility
Model grace and courtesy in all interactions
Assist with the preparation and care of Montessori materials
Support small group and individual work as directed by the Lead Guide
Contribute to a collaborative and reflective teaching team

Qualifications:
Required: Experience working with elementary-aged children (ages 6–12)
Required: Ability to safely drive a 15-passenger van and supervise outdoor activities, including hikes
Required: Successful criminal background check
Respect for the developmental needs and capabilities of the child
Ability to balance warmth with clear, consistent expectations
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Organized, dependable, and adaptable
Interest in Montessori philosophy; Montessori training is an asset
