Toddler Classroom Assistant

School Name: Sunstone Montessori School

School Location: Portland, Oregon

Sunstone Montessori School, a long-established AMI school serving 150+ children ages 16 months through 12 years old in the John’s Landing neighborhood of SW Portland, is hiring a Toddler Classroom Assistant beginning in June 2020.

The classroom assistant is an integral member of the team. We are looking for a patient, warm, observant team player who loves and has experience working with children 16 months-3 years, and who can lovingly set clear limits. A calm presence, strong organizational skills, ability to work as a team player, and a keen eye for detail are a must. Previous Montessori experience will be given special consideration. The classroom assistant provides essential daily support to prepare and maintain an orderly, smoothly functioning Montessori Toddler environment, so that the Guide can give lessons and oversee the children’s work. Duties include supporting children’s independent activity, assisting in the bathroom, supervising on the playground, aiding in food prep, assisting with nap time, and cleaning and maintaining the environment.

This is a full-time, year-round position, beginning in late June 2020. The classroom is open 7:30-5:30; assistants work an 8-9 hour shift with two paid 10-minute breaks and an unpaid half-hour lunch. Responsibilities include occasional required evening/weekend hours and attendance at Whole Staff meetings.
