The Community Roots School is seeking a Director of Curriculum and Instruction starting in this upcoming 2021/22 school year. We are a K-8 Public Charter Montessori school located in Silverton, OR, a welcoming and vibrant small community one hour south of Portland and near Silver Falls State Park. We have a strong commitment to social justice, anti-bias, anti-racism, and equity work. CRS is also passionate about outdoor education and we have an on-site outdoor guide for our garden program.

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is an educational leader who focuses on day-to-day implementation of the curriculum and works formally and informally with Guides to support and improve their instructional practices and adherence to the Montessori curriculum. They will oversee the development of all curricular initiatives, student assessments and related data analysis. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction is also a member of the leadership team and will participate in school-wide decision-making, strategic planning, and educational program design.

-Montessori Credentials from an AMS, AMI, or MACTE recognized training center at a minimum of one program level
-Minimum 4 years Montessori Teaching experience as a Lead Guide
-Prior experience analyzing student data
-Oregon State Teaching License, or the ability to obtain one
-Commitment to respectful and equitable practices


-Experience working with adults in a mentorship role
-Experience working in an elementary Montessori environment
-Familiarity with anti-bias, antiracist work
-MA/MS Degree


-Familiarity with coaching teachers through embedded modeling, observation, facilitation and feedback to improve classroom instruction

-Ability to coordinate curriculum development activities designed to produce a consistent learning experience from K through 8.

-Knowledge about adapting the Montessori curriculum to meet the needs of each student.

-Experience using data to identify students with exceptionalities and coordinating interventions along with the specialist and guides.

-Dynamic and mindful approach to problem-solving, demonstrate a growth mindset for professional and personal growth

-Maintain a calm demeanor in a busy, highly flexible environment

-Be organized, attentive to details, and a careful observer

-Understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures and implement them with a degree of independence

-Technical skills that support record-keeping and communication (Google Classroom, Transparent Classroom)

-Attend all school meetings and school related functions

-Establish and maintain good communications with parents, staff, and community members

-Collaborate effectively with other staff members including Guides, our Learning Specialists and Administration for curriculum planning, parent education events, student support, and for continued professional growth.
