Job Summary
The Primary Classroom Assistant supports classroom Guides to implement the Montessori approach within classroom environments, school common spaces, playground and studio environments while creating a warm, nurturing and safe environment for children in which individuality is respected and independence is encouraged. The Primary Classroom Assistant provides patience and respect for children and will be a model for the children's appropriate manners and behaviors.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Assists in care and classroom management of the children as outlined by school policies and classroom teams.
Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and engaging physical environment.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with children, parents and co-workers.
Refers any questions from parents regarding disciplinary issues or other classroom concerns to their classroom Guide.
Supervises children during classroom time, recess, rest time, bathroom support, transitions and during enrichment activities.
Is knowledgeable in Montessori terminology, approaches and methods, and/or is willing to grow and learn continually.
Leads small groups of activities as necessary.
Actively participates in enrichment programs including, but not limited to any winter, spring, and summer camp activities, after care programming, and in-service days.
Supports nap time and transition spaces and assists children participating in the nap room/transition spaces to after care when necessary.
Report any unusual occurrences to the appropriate person.
Creating “prepared environments” in collaboration with classroom and enrichment teams.
Keeps common areas such as the staff room, hallways, children’s bathrooms, laundry room and storage closets clear and tidy.
Reports to work, leaves and returns from breaks promptly, and according to the daily schedule using clock in/out tools accurately.
Participates in all in-service training and meetings.
Assists at school-related events as needed.
Other duties as assigned including aftercare.
Key Working Relationships
Director of Education - Works closely with the Director of Education to maintain consistency across learning spaces and provide information for review and feedback processes.
Guide - Works directly with Guide to support the educational offerings of a Montessori education. Supports the daily needs of children as Guides deliver lessons and support work.
Classroom Assistants - Will work collaboratively together in a team environment to meet the needs of the working relationship of Classroom Guides.
Enrichment Coordinator - Works with Enrichment Coordinator to implement relevant enrichment programming and break camps and provide a structured supportive work environment.
Minimum Education, Skills and Abilities
Aide 2 qualification per the Early Learning Divisions (ELD) Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC)  with the Office of Child Care (OCC). At least one year in a licensed child care setting is strongly preferred.
Experience in a Montessori environment is preferred.
Experience working with children ages 2.5 to 6 years is preferred .
Ability to guide children through redirection using positive language and modeling.
Model treating children and others with respect, sensitivity, kindness and dignity in all situations.
Ability to take initiative and to fulfill assigned duties without constant direction.
Individuals should be able to exercise a high degree of collaboration and confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational Skills.
Establishes and maintains cooperative working and supporting schedule changes.
Ability to work with integrity and make decisions independently.

Special Requirements
Enrollment in Central Background Registry (CBR) through  DELC with the OCC is required.
Maintains working knowledge of State of Oregon licensing rules for the certification of annual licensing through DELC and Oregon's Office of Child Care (OCC).
Montessori Assistant Teacher Training Certificate or willingness to become trained.
Completion of all required Safety Set trainings required by ELD’s Early Learning Division Self-Study Trainings (within 30 days).
Valid First Aid, Hands on CPR (within 90 days), and State of Oregon Food Handler’s Card (first 30 days).
Application to Oregon Center for Career Development’s Oregon Registry Online database (within 30 days).
Following all state and school compliance regulations including, but not limited to annual licensing standards, completing at least 15 clock hours of professional development with 8 of those hours in child development each licensing year, and any policy outlined in the TPMS Employee Handbook.
Ability to support the general functions of the school as needed.

    State & School Requirements and Trainings
Knowledge and understanding of current Oregon rules and regulations, per the Departments of Early Learning and Care (DELC)
Must be registered with Criminal Background Registry
Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid for Children, Infants and Adults.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (RRCAN)
Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety (ICCHS)
Prevention Is Better Than Treatment (PBTT)
Safe Sleep for Infants (SS)
Foundations For Learning (FFL)
Verification of Covid 19 Vaccination
24 total training hours per calendar year, 8 of those must be in Child Development
