ABOUT THE POSITION:

Portland Montessori Collaborative is seeking creative, flexible and grounded talent to join our teaching community in our Montessori Children’s House. Training and Qualifications:

MUST have current enrollment in the Central Background Registry before starting this position
Recent graduates with Montessori credential encouraged to apply
Food Handler’s Card, Infant/Child First Aid/CPR, and several other required Office of Childcare/DELC required training within the first 30 days of hire. Covid vaccination and booster or exception required.  
High School diploma/equivalent (minimum)
Step 8.5 or higher on Oregon Step Registry OR 1 year of qualifying teaching experience with this age group  (preferred//required for high end of pay scale)
Demonstrated ability to work with children
Responsible and able to take direction and to follow through
Willingness to be trained/educated in Montessori philosophy

Duties/Responsibilities:

Assists teacher during class time by redirecting children to work and aiding children who need help
Assist children in the bathroom as needed
Maintains order and cleanliness of environment daily
Assists in the cleaning, preparation, and maintenance of classrooms as needed and during inservice days
Supervises children on the playground
Provides direct instruction and/or remedial help as directed by the lead guide
Helps children to work cooperatively in an atmosphere of respect, using models of behavior and intervention demonstrated by the lead guide or Head of School
Helps teacher to make materials and plan activities
Substitutes for teacher in cases of illness or absence
Reports accidents and concerns immediately to the lead guide or person in charge
Works with teacher to learn about philosophy of Montessori to further understand the goals of the class and the school
Attends occasional evening or weekend events
Supports documentation as required and requested


Compensation: $20-$22/hour
Medical/Dental/PTO/Vacation/Life/EAP/Holiday after 30 days (total of 4 weeks vacation (preplanned) plus 12 paid holidays and up to 80 hours of PTO)
