Title:  Bilingual Floating Classroom Assistant, Part-time
Direct Supervisors:  Teacher/Guide, School Director
Hours:  Monday – Friday, 10:00am-2:00pm

We are seeking a part-time assistant to work alongside our trained guides/teachers and other team members in our Alder Montessori Program which provides high-quality Montessori early childhood education free of cost to low-income children and families. Alder Montessori is co-located at Alder Elementary School, within the Reynolds School District, and serves children ages 3-6 within our multi-age classrooms.  Most of our children enter as English language learners.  

Job Purpose:  
Reports to and works with the classroom lead teacher/guide.  Responsible for assisting the lead teachers with the general supervision and management of the classroom.

Our Requirements Include:
•Fluency in Spanish/English – written and verbal
•Experience (and joy in!) working with young children
•Compassionate communication style and positive attitude
•Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry
•Maintain Current CPR/1st Aid, RRCAN, and Food Handlers
•Ability to meet Office of Child Care Aide II requirements
•Must have a High School Degree or GED or equivalent.  Have, or be willing to receive, training and / or certification as a Montessori assistant.
Preference for Applicants with
•Experience or training as Montessori classroom assistant 


Work Hours:
School year (late August through mid-June), Monday through Friday on all school days.  Start Date and Hours as detailed in offer of employment.

Responsibilities:
1.Classroom Preparation, including general cleaning, inventory of supplies (pencils, paper, etc.), helping to arrange the furniture and activities, material making, etc.
2.Classroom coverage and children’s supervision and guidance while covering our primary classroom staff during breaks, lunch periods and absences.  Nap time supervision.
3.Assisting the children in the development of independence. This may include supporting children in choosing purposeful activities; dispensing supplies; greeting late arrivals; helping a child with toileting; assisting children with their communication or helping them resolve conflicts; indicating where to wait for the Guide when necessary; reporting any abnormal or unusual situations to the Guide; helping a child who is injured to take care of herself.
4.Developing and maintaining a positive and supportive relationship with Team Members. Supporting and participating in an agreed upon approach to guidance, consistent with Montessori philosophy and psychology for the primary age child.
5.Developing and maintaining a positive and supportive relationship with each child, while respecting and fostering her/his independence. Using positive language phrases and words with the children. Providing emotional support and understanding through active listening and feedback.

Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to:
•Lift up to 50 lbs.
•Bend, stretch and stoop repetitively.
•Have the mobility required to ensure the safety of the children.
•Work with children on the floor.
•Lead outdoor activities in all weather.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a regular part-time non-exempt position during the school year. The hourly pay for this position is $20.00. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.  AEME health, dental, vision and alternative care insurance, and professional development opportunities.
