Outstanding Dedication to Montessori Education in 2020-21 Award

About the Award

The Outstanding Dedication to Montessori Education in 2020-21 Award is being given this year to three Montessori educators in the OMA community who exemplified excellence and inspiration in teaching.

Eligibility

Current Montessori Guides in the Pacific Northwest are eligible for the Outstanding Dedication to Montessori Education in 2020-2021 Award. OMA membership is not a requirement.

Criteria

OMA seeks to recognize nominees who are passionate about and exhibit a deep understanding of the Montessori method and education.  Additionally, nominees need to have applied this passion and mastery in an exceptional manner throughout the extraordinary challenges presented in 2020 and 2021. We seek to recognize the remarkable efforts teachers have made to continue to connect, inspire and guide their students during this time. These three teachers will have transformed their role, within their school, during the pandemic. They will have either had experience with distance learning, limited in-person instruction or full time in-person instruction during the 2020-2021 school year. With the assistance of our community, we endeavor to recognize teachers from schools across Oregon and Southwest Washington. There are no requirements in terms of the number of years in the classroom or training affiliation.

OMA will award one teacher per level: Toddler Community and Children’s House/Primary and Elementary/Adolescent.

Nomination and Review Process

The 2021 Nomination process is open from March 29th to May 3rd. To nominate an individual, please complete a nomination form located here. Nominations from fellow teachers, administrators, parents, or students are accepted. An external review committee of administrators and guides from local schools and current OMA board members will review all nominations.

Award Ceremony

The recipient of this award will be honored at our Toast of the Town on May 22nd via Zoom.  Along with the Montessori Community, the recipient and their families, friends and colleagues are welcome and encouraged to view this celebration.

Winners will receive a prize package of items donated from the local area and the greater Montessori community. These prizes will be provided to the winners by June 15, 2021.
